I would like to commence a discussion on one area that I believe is important to bookkeepers generally as well as registered BAS agents.
Finding errors in a data file is one of the most important tasks of the BAS Agent. It is not enough to simply run a few reports and because the reports agree with the GST collected and GST paid liability accounts, submit the BAS on that basis.
There are often more than just the bookkeeper entering data into the accounting file, so...
- What if an entry is made into a previous BAS quarter that should have been made into the current quarter and how do you find it
- What happens if an account allocation has been made to the incorrect place and how do you find it
- What happens if a transaction has the incorrect tax code, how do you find this
Are these things important, or is close enough good enough as some seem to suggest.
What are your thoughts.
Rob
